WATCH: Pokémon GO gets laugh out loud ‘Honest Trailer’ treatment
Finally, some much needed perspective has been shone on our obsession with Pokémon GO. For those aspiring Pokémon trainers among us who started out so gleefully optimistic about the game promising ‘Pokémon in real life’, and who now find ourselves desperately trying to add more species to the Pokédexes which have since plateaued around the 50 mark, the good people at Smosh Games have taken all of our frustrations and disappointment, and bundled them into this oh-so-relatable honest trailer.
From branding Pokémon GO a “groundbreaking combination of mild cardio, Google Maps, and Paper Toss“, to accusing it of “throwing out all of the stuff that made Pokémon interesting and keeping the part where you walk back and forth in the grass until something interesting happens”, the dramatic voiceover gets our experience of love-hating the gaming sensation bang on.
We were just about crying at the description of the whole ‘transfer for candies’ thing, which explains the game’s “grinding system that will literally have you grinding the Pokémon you catch into candies that you force feed to the Pokémon you kept alive”.
“It wasn’t enough to catch a team of fighting slaves, now you make them eat their friends too”, the voiceover continues.
Of course, while the Honest Trailer speaks three and a half minutes of disturbingly accurate truths, it’s unlikely to put us off playing the game until our phone batteries / eyesight / sanity give out. But it’s definitely worth watching for some LOLs.
