Thrilling new Game of Thrones trailer teases return of ‘dead’ favourite
Just when you thought Friday couldn’t get any better, HBO go and drop a Game of Thrones trailer on us. And what a doozy it is!
Starring the “deader than dead” fan favourite Jon Snow (Kit Harington), the new trailer shows the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch apparently live and well, albeit experiencing an over-zealous wind machine. He stares, confused, into the distance as the Big Brother-style voiceover from the Three-Eyed-Raven (Max von Sydow) claims: “We watch. We wait. We remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry.”
The trailer then bursts into an explosion of our favourite Game of Thrones scenes from the past five seasons, including the beheading of Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Arya’s (Maisie Williams) transformation, the Red Wedding and Dany (Emilia Clarke) and her dragons. It finishes on the face on Jon’s younger brother Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), with his eyes rolled back, clearly in the middle of warging into something or someone.
The trailer finishes with the cryptic Bran voiceover: “They have no idea what’s going to happen.”
Bran Stark has not appeared since the season four finale, in which he began training with the Three-Eyed-Raven to finally harness his abilities to his full potential.
Could the image of Bran at the end lend credence to the theory that Jon Snow lives after warging into his direwolf Ghost? Or is the image of Bran merely a means of throwing us off the scent of Melisandre, putting her Red Priestess powers to good use and reviving our fallen Lord Commander. The only thing we know for absolute certain: we haven’t seen the last of Jon Snow, regardless of what everyone has told us.
Game of Thrones is set to return to screens in the US in April 2016, and maybe we will finally get some answers.
