The Stig To Go Into A New Show
Top Gear’s The Stig is finally free of Jeremy Clarkson’s clutches as its announced he has been picked up for another show.
BBC One are giving the famed Top Gear character his own TV show, The Getaway Car, which will be hosted by Dermot O’Leary.
The programme will see couples battling it out in a series of driving challenges, but posits around the whether the tasks will make or break them when they’re behind the wheel facing all manner of tasks.
The couples who will do the best will face Top Gear legend The Stig in an attempt to win prize money.
“This is a show that’s really about relationships,” O’Leary said. “We all think we are great drivers, but what tickled me most is seeing how people, who obviously love each other very much, speak to each other when they are behind the wheel of a car.
“It brings out the worst in all of us… but in a fun way. It’s a warm show that will stretch a family’s patience with those they love most in the world. I had a whale of a time doing the pilot and now can’t wait to make the series.”
The 12-part series of The Getaway Car – which BBC One controller Charlotte Moore described as “really fun” and “adrenaline charged” – will air on Saturday nights on BBC One in 2016.
