The Great British Bake Off slammed for ‘sexist’ icing
Come on, Bake Off; what were you thinking?! Everyone knows that brightly coloured icing is gross, but did you have to go that step further and make your new contestant photos totally sexist?
Revealing the first photos of 2016’s hopeful contestants, The Great British Bake Off has today come under fire from fans for using ‘gendered icing’, and thereby perpetuating everyday sexism.
With pink hues for the ladies and blue for the boys, the BBC baking sensation has inexplicably left itself open to outrage from fans who expected more from the otherwise accepting show. Tut tut.
all the men have blue icing(?) and the all the women have pink. bake off pls 🙃 pic.twitter.com/3exRmRng9b

Pink icing for female contestants and blue for male contestants. Really? Not cool Great British Bake Off 2016 https://t.co/OdGlxRzia0

I utterly LOVE Bake Off, but wish they hadn’t done that lazy thing of blue icing for the boys, pink for the girls in promo shots. 😕

Hmmmm. Obvs excited for bake off. Bemused by decision in publicity shots to give all women pink icing and all men blue…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited for The Great British Bake Off, but I’m pretty disappointed with this old fashioned pink/blue thing #GBBO

Perhaps in response to the criticism, BBC One did later tweet an image with mixed up icing colours for the male and female contestants.

Who would have thought that food colouring could be so controversial?
The Great British Bake Off returns to BBC One at 8pm on August 24th.
