Roxy Mitchell to leave EastEnders
Roxy Mitchell will leave EastEnders in a shock storyline, reports Digital Spy.
Rita Simons has portrayed Roxy, feisty cousin of Phil and Grant and sister of Ronnie, for nine years on the show.
She arrived alongside sister Ronnie Mitchell in July 2007, and the pair have remained close (for the most part) ever since.
Roxy’s time on the square has seen her marry twice and get engaged an additional three times. Her main storylines involve hiding the paternity of her daughter, briefly becoming a millionaire and landlady of the Queen Vic, one-night stands with both of her sister Ronnie’s husbands, an abusive relationship with rapist Dean Wicks, and returning from her time away as a drugs mule.
The news comes shortly after it was revealed Samantha Womack would be leaving the role of Ronnie after nine years on the London-based soap.
It can now be revealed that Roxy and Ronnie will leave together, as part of an explosive new storyline for the Mitchell sisters in 2017.
An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy: “Having joined the show in 2007, Rita immediately won the hearts of the audience in the role of Roxy Mitchell and between her and Samantha Womack they created one of the most iconic duos EastEnders has ever seen.
“Alongside Samantha, Rita was recently offered to take part in the same big storyline that will see the Mitchell sisters depart Walford, but we will not be releasing any further details at this time. We wish Rita all the best for the future.”
