Parks & Rec’s Leslie Knope “would be out campaigning like a mofo” for Hillary Clinton
Parks and Recreation creator Michael Schur has confirmed that our favourite feminist political powerhouse Leslie Knope “would’ve cried for days and days and days and been so happy” in the wake of Hillary Clinton accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination.
Speaking to the A.V. Club about how the Amy Poehler character would have reacted to the Democratic representation in this year’s American Presidential Election, Schur explained that Leslie “would’ve pressed really hard to move the platform to the left … She would be out campaigning like a mofo. She would be 100 percent supportive—and I think that would’ve been true of a number of potential candidates for that position, but Hillary most of all”.
But what about if Knope’s ultimate crush Joe Biden had also been in the race?
“I think I ended up going with Hillary just for the simple fact of wanting a woman—she has a daughter in the future, she would want to point to the TV and say, ‘Look, you can be the president.’ But Hillary v. Biden would’ve been a walking nightmare for Leslie”.
We wish that the show, which had its final episode last February after seven hilarious seasons, could have continued to cover the ever engrossing election.
