Niall Horan is banned from The X Factor
Former One Direction songster Niall Horan has been banned from performing on the show that made him famous, according to new reports.
The Irish solo artist dropped his debut single “This Town” earlier this month to the surprise of fans everywhere, reaching number nine in the UK Singles Charts. However, his actions did not go down well with former X Factor mentor Simon Cowell, after Niall chose to release the acoustic number with a rival record label.
Niall famously auditioned as a solo act on The X Factor in 2010, but Nicole Scherzinger decided he would do better in a new boyband with other male solo acts. That band later became known as One Direction, and placed third in that year’s edition of the show. Despite failing to win the show outright, Simon signed One Direction to his record label Syco anyway, and the rest is history.
Simon is now said to be angered with Niall for choosing to sign with Universal instead of staying with him at Syco, or within parent brand Sony’s selection of artists like former bandmates Harry Styles and Zayn Malik.
A source told The Sun: “Simon really thought the 1D boys would show loyalty after he mentored them on the show and made them the huge global success they are. Instead they went behind his back.
“He’s not going to be doing them any favours. He knows artists love performing on the show as there are eight million viewers to promote their songs to.”
Niall’s decision to appear on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show has also angered ITV-based X Factor bosses, the source continued.
“Niall also chose to do The Graham Norton Show. The X Factor don’t like to have acts that have been elsewhere.”
Simon has apparently been far from losing sleep over the decision not to allow Niall to perform on this year’s X Factor, after Niall’s song failed to set the charts alight.
The source added: “The song’s already going down the chart. Simon doesn’t feel he’s missing out.”
Earlier this month, Simon took a swipe at Niall for his disloyalty, telling The Mirror: “He probably would have had a No1 single if he’d stayed with me.”
