Netflix announces release dates for Black Mirror, Gilmore Girls, Chef’s Table and more
Just when we thought the TV horizon was looking a little bleak, online streaming giant Netflix has gone ahead and announced the premiere dates for nine upcoming series, all at once.
Of the glittering selection of programming jewels, we’re most excited about the new season of Charlie Brooker’s ever unsettling anthology Black Mirror, which will drop in less than three months’ time on October 21, and of course the new Gilmore Girls, subtitled ‘A Year in the Life’, which premieres globally on November 25th.
We know so far that the six new episodes of Black Mirror will be jam packed with top acting talent, with its cast boasting such names as James Norton, Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve, Malachi Kirby and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The first teaser for the series is suitably tech based and creepy, as can be seen below:
Meanwhile, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life promises to create new fond memories with Lorelai, Rory, and the whole Stars Hollow gang, as each of its four 90-minute chapters will span a season: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Original cast favourites including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry and Melissa McCarthy are all set to return, and the new date announcement below has us jumping for joy that the years haven’t seemed to change our most beloved mother-daughter duo:
Completing the ace list of date announcements are:
- Chef’s Table: France, which joins the service on September 2nd;
- Joe Swanberg’s Chicago-based anthology Easy, starring Orlando Bloom, Malin Akerman, Jake Johnson, Marc Maron, Dave Franco, Hannibal Buress, Emily Ratajkowski, which premieres September 22nd;
- Part 2 of Ashton Kutcher sitcom The Ranch, which launches October 7th;
- The second season of the series formerly known as Scrotal Recall, Lovesick, which premieres on November 17th;
- Season two of animation Beat Bugs, which follows five best friends who together discover life’s most important lessons to the words and music of The Beatles, and premieres on November 18th;
- New docuseries Captive, which looks at the most challenging hostage negotiations of our time, and begins December 9th;
- And One Day at a Time – a 13-episode reimagining of the Norman Lear classic, centering on a Cuban-American family – which launches next January 6th.
That should be sufficient to fill our watchlists for the months ahead!
