Meet Made in Chelsea’s newest cast members Akin, Emily and Julius
Made In Chelsea will be returning with a new series this month, and there are going to be a few changes in London’s hottest gang.
Lucy Watson has already announced her departure from the E4 show, with her spokesperson explaining: “After four amazing years on Made in Chelsea, Lucy feels that now is the right time to explore some other exciting opportunities and projects that she is passionate about.”
They added: “Being part of such a successful show has been an incredible experience for her. And she wishes everyone involved all the very best for the future.”
So with one of the biggest stars gone, we are definitely in need of some new personalities to mix things up within the poshest group in London. And no doubt fresh faces Akin, Emily and Julius will be able to deliver. So without further ado, let’s meet the newbies:
Firstly, we have Akin Solanke-Caulker, sports agent and director of The Athletic Agent. Despite the reality television show having run for several series, Akin is going to be the programme’s first ever black cast member. He spoke to The Sun about the importance of representation: “It’s definitely overdue, they need a black person on the show.”
“…I’m not just representing myself but I’m representing other people that look like me, not just the racial side of things but also people who are from where I am from.”
Akin will be introduced to the show as a friend of Alex Mytton’s, and so is set to join in the playboy antics of Jamie Laing and the like. He has already suggested that he may be able to fill the boots of the former top-dog, Spencer Matthews: “I’m quite similar to Spencer in that it’s not hard for me to vocalise what I’m feeling. I am definitely a playboy but I’ll try not to be on screen for the sake of my family.”
And he already has his eyes on one girl in particular: “The closest to my target is probably Louise Thompson, she’s quite captivating but she has a boyfriend now anyway.” We can sense the drama brewing already…
Another newcomer is Emily Blackwell, a 20-year-old professional model. Originally from Surrey, Emily is friends with Jess Woodley and has since joined her and Toff’s group of girl pals.
Lucy Watson’s razor-sharp tongue will be a significant loss to the show, but perhaps Emily will be able to take on her role. She is described as an ice maiden by her family, and she has admitted that she is able to get on a lot better with the boys than she is with the girls. Who will be her first victim?
Also joining the show is 23-year-old half-Swedish Julius Cowdrey. Julius comes from a family of cricket royalty: his late grandfather Lord Colin Cowdrey was England captain and received a life peerage for services to the game, while his father Chris captained England and Kent.
Julius is more interested in music, however. An aspiring singer-songwriter, the new cast member describes his music style as “James Bay on a piano”. Looks like he can join the list of other MIC stars attempting (and so fair failing) to take over the music industry. Does anyone remember Caggie, Gabriella and Andy?
Akin, Emily and Julius will be joining the familiar faces of Made in Chelsea, alongside comeback cast members Ollie Proudlock, Francis Boulle and Fredrik Ferrier. We can’t wait for the drama to begin.
Made in Chelsea returns Monday 10th October at 9pm on E4.
