Mary Berry shares her opinion on new Great British Bake Off line-up
Former judge Mary Berry has given her verdict on the new Great British Bake Off team, admitting that she has never heard of upcoming host Noel Fielding.
Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig were confirmed as the new Bake Off hosts last week, meaning they will appear alongside judge Prue Leith when the new series debuts on Channel 4 this year. And now the line-up can finally breath a sigh of relief as baking legend Mary Berry has finally given them the nod of approval.
However, Mary did confess that she hadn’t heard of Noel before the announcement. When asked by The Sun if she could work with the Mighty Boosh star, she revealed: “I don’t know him, but I’d take my chances.”
She also spoke highly of the Great British Menu‘s Prue, who will be taking over her role on the show as Paul Hollywood’s judging partner. She praised her replacement, remarking that Prue possesses the necessary “knowledge” and “personality” to do well on the programme.
Not everyone has been as complimentary as Mary, however. Noel’s friend and Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno recently told Radio 1 he thought he was “selling out”.
He said: “We sort of talked about it. I’ve sort of known that it was in the air. And we figured Salvador Dali did a Cadbury’s chocolate advert so it’s okay, you know? That sort of made it alright.”
Paul Hollywood also revealed his thoughts on the new GBBO cast this week. The baker joined the Loose Women panel on Monday to discuss the upcoming series of Bake Off on Channel 4.
Talking about his new co-stars, Paul admitted: “I’m really excited to be honest. I’m really excited, I mean really excited.
“Obviously it’s a big thing for the country, the Bake Off. When I heard the names read out, I was the same as everybody else, I was really excited.”
The panel asked the famous baker if he had known beforehand about the new line-up.
“I did know about Prue,” he said. “But I didn’t know about the others at all. But it’s perfect. I’m really, really excited.”
Great British Bake Off will return later this year on Channel 4.
