Four people arrested in India over Game of Thrones season 7 leak
Four individuals have been arrested for leaking Game of Thrones season seven episode four: ‘The Spoils of War’.
Following a complaint from a company in Mumbai, India, that processes GoT episodes for an app, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan told AFP how police “investigated the case and have arrested four individuals for unauthorised publication of the fourth episode from season seven.”
The leaked episode appeared online two days before the official episode release date and a watermark on the leak pointed towards it belonging to Indian distributor Star India.
The 21st Century Fox-owned company quickly released a statement following the leak, saying: “This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause.
“This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”
Police have confirmed that the four people arrested for the Game of Thrones leak had company credentials that allowed those individuals access to the episodes in advance to broadcast.
Game of Thrones airs Mondays on Sky Atlantic at 2am and 9pm.
