Doctor Who star says Jodie Whittaker will “slay” in the role
New Doctor Who star Sharon D. Clarke claims new Time Lord Jodie Whittaker will “slay” in the role.
Speaking on Radio 4’s Loose Ends, the West End and TV star described Whittaker as “an absolute joy”.
On how Whittaker will perform as Britain’s favourite alien time-traveler, Clarke said: “She’s going to slay it. What’s lovely about Jodie, because she always plays these kind of dour characters who are downtrodden, to have someone who’s up and hopeful and fighting crime, she’s just bouncing around the set.”
“She’s definitely earning those two hearts that the Doctor has. She’s wonderful, I absolutely adore her.”
Clarke was announced as a new recurring member of the upcoming season eleven cast in October, along with Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.
Very little is known about the character she is set to play, and Clarke is giving away few clues.
Responding to questions about her character, Clarke teased: “I am a human and Bradley Walsh is my husband, he’s human, and I think that’s about as much as I can tell you.”
Speaking when the new cast were announced last October, new showrunner Chris Chibnall said: “The new Doctor is going to need new friends.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family. They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor.
“Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show.”
