Davina McCall opens up about the moment she decided to quit heroin
In tonight’s John Bishop: In Conversation With Davina McCall, the presenter gives a frank and honest interview about her past addiction to heroin.
The former Big Brother host was addicted to the harmful substance during her youth, and tonight viewers will get to witness Davina describe her story in detail.
Speaking to comedian and presenter John Bishop, the celebrity guest revealed: “I’d lost all the good people. There was one person left, and she was the one that said to me in the end, ‘Look, we’re all talking about you. You think you’ve got this kind of mask up and you’re kidding us all, but you’re not.
“‘We all know that you’re a junkie and we all know you’re taking heroin or we all know that you’re, you know, you’re lying to us the whole time. And I’m not going to stand around and watch it anymore.’
“She said, ‘I’ve had enough.’ And she’d been so there for me the whole time, I just thought she was going to be the one constant. And when she said, ‘That’s it,’ I was devastated. Course, I swore at her a lot and got out the car, slammed the door!”
Tonight’s show will also see Davina talk about her father’s current battle with Alzheimer’s, after being diagnosed with the disease “a couple of years ago”.
She explained: “It’s getting worse and his short-term memory is much worse than it was a couple of years ago. But his positive mental attitude they said is absolutely key in him dealing with his illness.
“I look at my Dad and I see such hope and such positivity and each hurdle we’ll cross when we get to it. So he’s a real inspiration and I hope he can be for other people too.”
John Bishop: In Conversation With Davina McCall airs tonight (Thursday) at 9pm on W.
