Could a Star Wars live action TV series be in the works?
ABC officials have done nothing to quell hopes for a live action Star Wars-themed television series.
Speaking at the Television Critic’s Association press tour on Thursday (August 4), ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said to press: “As a fan, I would absolutely love to say yes [to a Star Wars show].”
“We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise.”
The American network was believed to have been close to agreeing terms for a Star Wars live action television series before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in 2012.
The franchise has previously spawned a successful animated series, Star Wars Rebels, which will to broadcast a third season on Disney Channel in the US very soon. There have also been several Star Wars Lego adventures, including LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.
However, live action Star Wars has always remained exclusive to the big screen.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the series and the first to be produced by Disney, was a critical and box office success last year when it premiered around the world. Two as-yet-unnamed sequels are set to follow in 2017 and 2019.
