Caitlyn Jenner reveals she had suicidal thoughts before coming out as transgender
Caitlyn Jenner has opened up about how she once considered suicide before coming out as transgender.
Promoting her new memoir, The Secrets of My Life, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star talked about her emotional battle as she began her transition into physically becoming a woman.
Caitlyn described how she had contemplated an “easy way out” when a US gossip site pictured her leaving a doctor’s surgery after having her trachea shaved. She said: “It got to the point where I thought, you know what, I know the easy way out. I got a gun in the house” (ITV).
However, realising she could make a real difference by voicing her story, Caitlyn found strength to continue her journey.
“But then the next day I thought, wouldn’t that be the stupidest thing you’ve ever done, to silence your voice? You have the opportunity here to really make a difference, to live your life honestly,” she continued.
Referring to her new memoir, the former Olympic champion also revealed that writing her book acted as a real coping mechanism during times of struggle.
She explained: “I needed to pour my heart out on everything.
“What I was trying to accomplish is, one, get it all out for myself, so there was no other secrets left, but two, it was the way I dealt with my stuff.”
Caitlyn also recently cleared up rumours that she is against rights for all LGBTQ couples, after admitting that she “wasn’t for it” in 2015. During a recent interview with Diane Sawyers, she set the record straight.
“I am 100% behind gay marriage,” she insisted. “Let’s clear that up right now. I am 100% for gay marriage.”
