BBC’s Pitch Battle replaces opening episode of show after Grenfell Tower Fire
New series Pitch Battle will open with a different episode than originally planned following the horrific Grenfell Tower Fire.
BBC producers have decided to change the running order of the show, as the episode due to air featured inappropriate lyrics and themes in the wake of the tragedy.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed: “Following the tragic fire in London, the decision has been taken to replace the original opening episode of Pitch Battle with another episode.”
17 people have so far been confirmed dead, after the fire engulfed the 27-storey tower block in North Kensington on Wednesday morning (June 14). Police have said they expect that number to rise.
The choir competition Pitch Battle airs on Saturday night and will see six vocal groups competing across three rounds each week. The winner of each heat will then progress on to the live grand final.
Mel Giedroyc is hosting the series, with the panel consisting of The Choir’s Gareth Malone, “Milkshake” singer Kelis and a string of guest judges.
Pitch Battle begins Saturday (June 17) at 7:30pm on BBC One.
