It’s back: Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief 2017
After a three year break from the annual series, the BBC has announced they are bringing back Let’s Dance For Comic Relief in 2017… except with a difference. This time the celebrities have to sing as well!
A part of the Comic Relief fundraiser, Let’s Dance For Comic Relief is a comedy talent competition that showcases celebrities battling it out as they take on famous dance routines. The BBC show originally ran for five series until disappearing in 2013 for three years, but now we’re pleased to hear it’s back and sounding better than ever. Previous years have seen some absolutely hilarious performances, with memorable routines from Robert Webb and Rufus Hound, who took on the iconic “Flashdance” and “Fight For This Love” choreography.
Yesterday BBC One announced that the show will return ahead of next year’s Red Nose Day, and this time around they’ve added a whole new element into the mix. The celebrity contestants will now be expected to sing the songs of their musical numbers as well as tackle the choreography, thus becoming aptly named Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief.
Creative Director of the charity, Charlotte Ashton, explained: “We are thrilled that Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief will be part of next year’s Red Nose Day campaign.”
“We hope that the celebrities doing their bit will encourage the nation to fundraise and donate to raise a life changing amount of money for people living the toughest lives in the UK and across Africa.”
The talent contest will consist of three heats, and the singing and dancing celebrities will be hoping to impress a rotating panel of guest judges, as well as the viewers at home. The public will determine who makes it to the live final, and who is ultimately crowned winner, as they vote each week for their favourite performer.
Steve Jones and Alex Jones hosted the previous series, but it is yet to be announced who next year’s presenters will be.
So limber up and warm up those vocal chords celebs! Sounds like this series is going to be a tough one.
Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief will return in 2017 on BBC One.
